Comprehensive study and education of planetary sciences via various approaches

Exploration & Observation Unit

Origin & Evolution Unit

Modeling & Simulation Unit

Exploration & Observation Unit

Studying atmospheres, plasmaspheres, and magnetospheres of Earth and planets based on space exploration and ground observation. We use "Akatsuki" (a Venus explorer), International Space Station (JEM-GLIMS), Micro-satellites, and Pirka Telescope in Nayoro, Hokkaido.

LeadTakahashi/Sato lab

Origin & Evolution Unit

Studying material evolution during the Solar System formation, evolution of the interior structure, surface environment, and atmosphere of Earth, planets, and satellites theoretically and experimentally. We participate in planetary exploration missions, such as "Hayabusa2" and "MMX."

LeadKuramoto/Kamata lab

Modeling & Simulation Unit

Studying climatology and meteorology of Earth, Mars, and exoplanets based on large-scale numerical simulations of planetary atmospheres. We develop and operate a computer network to advance informatization of Earth and planetary sciences.

For Students

We are looking for students who are interested in Earth and planetary sciences

Outreach Activities

We promote dissemination of Earth and planetary science via visiting elementary, junior high, and high schools, and giving lectures open to the public.
